Hitler wanted to kill all nations, which lived on USSR territories (kill can mean kill slowly, only few generations later). This war was more for us, than you think it is. So far I can tell, that all non-white people and people of slavic race would get killed by Hitler. This is like 99,9% of USSR population. People in Red Army didn’t know about Hitler plans. Thy were fighting for their motherland and later to defeat fashism, which brought so much unhappiness to them

One more fact. If they were fighting against USSR it can mean that they are nazi, because Hitler was thinking of killing all people in USSR…(i.e. all races, who lived in USSR territories)

Do not forget that there were many Russian merchants that moved to Latvia pre-1918 and that there were many Russians who were accepted by the Latvian people (with open arms) during the horrors of the Russian Civil War!
i agree 100%, this is a very biased account of Latvian History. I am also british and i have been studying Latvia for 9 Years, it fails to explain the images shown in the video. when they ignore the Soviet Occupation and its Devastating effects in 1940, as one of the last lines said “Nazi memorials” where they failed to relate to the Independant “Latvian Legion” who the allies recognized as non-nazis

This one-sided movie fails to mention:
(a) Latvian SS’s as fighting against the USSR, not for Nazi Germany (when surrounded by stronger dictators…)
(b) most of the Latvian Russians came there as a result of Stalin’s attempts at “diluting” the local population (he also did it elsewhere);
(c) the deportations after the Soviet occupation;
(d) the number of Latvians who protected and saved Jews from the Germans;
(e) the fact that similar laws exist in most other countries (including Russia).
Would it be fair to tell all Latvians coming to the UK that they should throw away all their culture, forget Latvian language, songs, festivals? No, because we are democracy and understand that indentity is not to bullied out of people.
You can not destroy culture and identity and expect integration. When all the population of Latvia is treated fairly and represented then you can start to build a country. I lived in Riga for several years and didn’t see any positive government policies, only nasty spiteful ones.

my mum is russian(has latvian citizenship tho) and dad was latvian (died a while ago). i speak both latvian and russian. if you want to live in latvia make a little effort and be a latvian not a russian who lives in latvia and calls oneself latvian, but does not want to be one. there are choices. as about choosing german or russian side during war-what were they doing in our country anywhay??? and if you want russian go to russia, want french go to france.

Ok, the quote with “do your stuff” is just a small part from article about rapings. Now, even if you disagree with whatever negative views towards this totalitarian regime, you have to agree that the attrocities happened nevertheless. And not just once or in one place, there where lots of them, for many years and for huge amount of people. And its not the Baltics or Europe that are rewriting history. Simply compare Russian school books on history - newest and 10-15 years old.

And not only economically they were allied - also the cooperation in Poland? Or holocoust - sending back the polish jews? Or hiding german ships in soviet harbours? You should read the communication between german ship captains and harbour commander! they were close friends! And cooperation on intelligance level?? huge!
by the way.. the reasoning that Soviet attrocities against germans, hungarians, romanians, bulgarians, austrians happened because germans killed alot of russians doesn’t seem too good, since large scale attrocities where against czechoslovakians, polish and finnish population. did they also made attrocities? well.. appearently unknown to anyone, even themselves, but Soviet Union and Red Army.
